The situation

The client bought Dogecoin years earlier and stored it in a Dogecoin Core wallet on an old computer. By the time it had grown into a multi-million-dollar holding, the password was a distant memory — a few remembered fragments and a rough sense of length, nothing exact. The wallet.dat was intact, so the coins were there; only the password on the encrypted master key stood in the way.

The challenge

A blind brute force was hopeless. The recoverable path was to turn what the client did remember into a structured search — the fragments, the length, the character habits, and the era the wallet was made. The value also meant getting it right on isolated hardware, under a signed agreement, before any file changed hands.

How we recovered it

We extracted the encrypted master-key hash from the wallet.dat and built targeted candidate lists — masks and rules generated from the client’s hints rather than exhaustive brute force. Those ran against the wallet on dedicated offline GPU hardware using hashcat’s Bitcoin/Dogecoin wallet mode (11300). Once a candidate decrypted a key cleanly, the password was confirmed and the wallet opened to the correct balance.

The outcome

The client regained full control of their Dogecoin and moved it to a fresh, modern wallet. As with every case, the fee was a percentage of the recovered value, charged only on success, with nothing paid upfront.
